The Nucleus: Mr. Raymond Reid, AKA Ray Bosco
Raymond Reid, nicknamed Ray Bosco by a childhood basketball coach (after the famed Bosco Chocolate Syrup), adapted a distinct life-long mentality that naturally comes with the territory of being a child born and raised in Harlem, NY (West 118th Street and Manhattan Avenue, AKA Money Ave.) With his inbred hustle mentality, from the age of 21 until present, the party scene became a lucrative means to an end for the former Iona College business major.
After he and his partners mastered the party scene and became the big apple’s top promoters, Reid who has maintained an executive position for a national communications company for the past eight years, felt as if it was time to embark on a new venture. In 2003, he established That’s Who Entertainment, bearing the slogan One Team One Dream. Under That’s Who Ent. Reid managed and jumpstarted the career of popular rapper T-Rex, also a Money Ave. resident, notorious for his DVD battle raps.
The BCE “nucleus” also managed a popular Harlem-based R&B duo. As the artist relations manager for the company formerly known as Sting Entertainment, Reid managed the day-to-day activities of all of Sting’s artists. Neo-Soul singer Lex James, who was once signed with Sting (under Reid’s supervision), and also an R&B trio member of a group that included soul singer D’Angelo, became Reid’s latest BCE recruit.
In addition, Reid signed the label’s first act, a young and multi-talented rapper named Brava Man (pronounced Bru-vuh Man), who he watched grow up in the neighborhood since a child and mentored throughout the years as a “Big Cuzin.” Like Brava Man, Reid also watched the label’s first lady, Laci, who hails from East Harlem, transition from a child into a beautiful multi-talented artist.
Through Reid and his counterpart’s launch of BCE, Harlem’s extensive track record for trendsetting and global innovation can now add another accomplishment to the list, and make room for the many that are soon to come.
With all of the components in place, Reid’s longtime vision of forming an entertainment super power is now coming to fruition.
